It scores your best seven NSC subjects INCLUDING Life Orientation on an 8-point scale (90–100 = 8, unlike the usual 7-point scale). English and Mathematics earn +2 bonus points at level 5 (60%) and above, while Life Orientation is scaled down (level 8 counts only 4). The maximum is 56. Each course shows the guaranteed-consideration threshold — score just below it and you may be wait-listed. Health Sciences programmes (Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, etc.) instead use a Composite Index of 60% academic results and 40% National Benchmark Test scores, so they aren't scored here.
